Knopfler: The UK’s Ruinous, Rocky Journey Away From the Sensible, Moderate Leanings of the EU

In 1930s Germany, a number of Jewish geniuses, prodigies and other high fliers decided, with the climate of ignorant populism, lumpen hate all around them, and a dreadful government that amplified and thrived on racist lies, that enough was enough and so made their way from a backward looking Europe to the US, where the universities there, like Princeton, were only too happy to snap them up.

It would of course be an oversimplification to say they didn’t experience prejudice and difficulties in their new homeland but, nevertheless, they were offered much much more than the ever-darkening and narrowing tunnel of the Third Reich.

The long term benefits to the US were incalculable, whereas Berlin in 1945 was just rubble. It is that stark.

It would be wise that the UK, in particular (though not just the UK), learn the lessons from history.

I have to wonder how many ethnic minority and future prodigies, capable of changing the course of history in the ways that mathematician (and all round screaming genius from Budapest, Hungary) John Von Neumann, at Princeton did, are being lost to the UK.

All because it has essentially created a hostile environment for immigrants and refugees. Where will the second generation of such parents be growing up, now?

We in the UK, from generations of offering sanctuary to some of the world’s most influential thinkers and doers, are now on a ruinous, rocky journey away from the sensible, moderate leanings of the EU, away from the nurturing of talent, towards a future essentially dictated by the belligerent, angry, worst instincts of our least intelligent and least talented.

Lumpen England… What possible good can come of this racist aversion to cross fertilisation of ideas and genes?
This is for many of us, a cause for deep anguish, not celebration.
